When to Book Your Newborn Photographer

Did you just find out you are expecting?? First off, congratulations on the pregnancy, whether itโ€™s your first, third or sixth, each pregnancy is a miracle and amazing in my books!

I get that you are thinking of 500 different things going through your mind. And I am guessing if you are reading this blog you might be looking for a newborn photographer. AND I am so happy you are here.

This blog will simply guide you through when you should contact a newborn photographer if thatโ€™s me or not, and when you can typically expect to have the newborn session booked!

Best Time for Your Newborn Session

There is a special time period for newborn photography - between 5 and 14 days old.

During this window, babies usually sleep deeply and tend to curl up in the same way they did while inside their mother's womb, making them comfortable during photoshoots! Capture your little one at this unique moment before they grow too fast with posed newborn photography.

However, with Lifestyle Newborn Photography I always tell my clients that we have more flexibility with scheduling since lifestyle photography focuses more on family and nature candid moments verse posed newborn photography that is more structured.

This blog will provide you with a simple guide to when you should expect to book your newborn photographer!

When to Contact A Newborn Photographer

The very best time to book your newborn photo shoot is before your baby is born.

I love getting clients on my calendar as early as possible, which is why I allow clients to book their due dates as early as the 12-week scan. Booking this early also gives clients the opportunity to take advantage of my Pregnancy Journey Collection. This collection includes a pregnancy announcement session, maternity, fresh 48 (hospital/birthing center), and a newborn session!

Babies are so unpredictable and the majority of babies arenโ€™t born on their due date. So if you are wondering how on earth you can book your shoot before your baby is born.

This is how it works: Clients book based on their due date. I only accept 10-12 newborns each month. This gives my clients the wiggle room and flexibility to get on my schedule during those first 14 days of life.

Instead, I make a note of your due date and ask you to contact me as soon as you can after your babyโ€™s birth. At this point weโ€™ll set a date for your session to make sure we catch the 5-14 day window.

What if Baby is Already Born

What if you didnโ€™t book before baby has arrived? I promise you arenโ€™t the first and you wonโ€™t be the last family to think about newborn pictures after your baby has arrived.

So I stick to the โ€œIt never hurts to ask,โ€ motto. While I canโ€™t guarantee that I can work you into my schedule, it truly doensโ€™t hurt to ask and I do my very best to help out every family that contacts me.

If your baby is already past the โ€˜two week windowโ€™ you donโ€™t have to miss out. I regularly photograph โ€˜older newbornโ€™ babies and also offer an Older Newborn Session which focusses on the newborn photographs that are suitable for babies aged up to 8 weeks.
